A Bolognese icon

Art International Aste Bologna is based in Palazzo Fantuzzi, also known as
Palazzo degli Elefanti is a historic residential building in Bologna,
located in via San Vitale 23/a. Its construction was commissioned in 1517
by Senator Francesco Fantuzzi.
This palace remains one of the few noble palaces in Bologna without a portico;
furthermore the use of sandstone to the detriment of the traditional red brick
it is very distinct from the traditional city style.

Fanuzzi Palace
A Renaissance Dream Born in 1517
On the facade there are war writings, now restored,
which signalled the air raid shelters during the
Second World War.
Today the Palace is used as an auction house, offices
and dwellings, communicating through a courtyard characterized
from an important Baroque-style staircase full of sculptures
historical ones of great importance and size, representing Hercules
and Atlas.
The latter, a work by Paolo Canali and the sculptor
Gabriele Brunelli, was inaugurated in 1680 as the first of
this genre in Bologna and whose drafts are found
preserved at the Uffizi in Florence.
